Tottenham legend says one current player really needs to ‘up his game’

Former Tottenham Hotspur man, Graham Roberts, has taken to social media to blast the current players after the miserable defeat to Newcastle United, with Yves Bissouma getting a name-check in his post-match evaluation.

Tottenham‘s three-match unbeaten run came to an end in dramatic fashion on Saturday afternoon when they suffered a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Newcastle at St James’ Park. The result saw the Lilywhites lose pace in the race for the top four, too.

Micky van de Ven made a number of errors that led to goals for Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon, but it would be harsh to pin the result solely on one player for Spurs.

From front to back, not a single player could walk away from that loss with any kind of credit, and boss Ange Postecoglou has also been criticised for the manner of the defeat.

Tottenham trio criticised by Spurs legend

Meanwhile, midfielder Yves Bissouma continued to display the poor form that has plagued his season since the turn of the year, struggling to get a hold of the game in the middle of the park.

Bissouma has been picked out by Graham Roberts for criticism, alongside van de Ven and Cristian Romero at the Spurs defence, with a particular focus on the way they defend at corners.

Roberts tweeted: “Our two centre-backs need to take responsibility at corners. We have not won one header and it’s embarrassing at the moment. In midfield, Yves Bissouma needs to up his game.”

Romero and van de Ven are usually so solid, so I’m not concerned about them at all. But Bissouma has been poor for months and really needs to sort it out. Postecoglou has to play Sarr and Bentancur against Arsenal, because Bissouma is offering us nothing at the moment.
