Tottenham legend says teammate is a natural goalscorer like Kane

Jermain Defoe has hit the ground running at Rangers having already scored four times since he arrived at Ibrox in January.

The striker who was prolific in front of goal during his two spells with Tottenham has lavished praise on his strike partner Alfredo Morelos.

Morelos has been a pivotal part of Steven Gerrard’s side as they find themselves in a title race with their rivals Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.

The 22-year-old has scored 27 goals already this season, and Defoe has now compared his finishing ability to Tottenham striker Harry Kane.

Defoe, who saw Kane develop in the youth squad during his stint with Spurs and even played with the current England captain says Morelos’ natural goal scoring instinct reminds him of Kane when he was younger.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the 36-year-old said, ” He’s got huge potential. I knew about him before but you don’t realise how good he is till you see him train and you see him in games. The sky’s the limit for him. If he played in the Premier League, he would score goals.

“At Tottenham, when we had Harry Kane as a youngster, I remember saying that I believed he should play more and that he would go on to score a lot of goals for the club.

“What he has done is unbelievable. And I think Alfredo’s got that. When you’re a natural goalscorer, you can score goals at any level in any league.”

With Tottenham reported to be looking to add an understudy for Kane in the summer, the Rangers striker might be somebody for Spurs to consider, although the step up in quality from the Scottish league to the Premier League is quite substantial.
