Tottenham legend warns player he will have to take a pay cut to leave

Tottenham Hotspur legend Graham Roberts has claimed that Tanguy Ndombele will leave this transfer window but warned the midfielder he will have to take a wage cut in order to do so.

Roberts said he both ‘expects him to leave’ and thinks ‘they’re [Tottenham] looking to get him [Ndombele] out’.

The Telegraph reported last week that the French midfielder had told the club he wants to leave this transfer window. Tottenham will reportedly demand ‘around’ £51.5m for the 24-year-old.

If he goes for such a price, this would mean Spurs had re-couped most of the £53.8m they spent on the midfielder in 2019; a deal that is still the club’s record fee.

Ndombele has played 75 games in all competitions since signing for Spurs but has yet to play a minute of football under Nuno Espirito Santo, putting his future at North London in huge doubt.

Roberts has had his say on the situation, telling Football FanCast: “He obviously wants to leave and if he does he will have to take a wage cut.

“I think the club will have a fee on him. Whether clubs will be willing to pay that, I don’t know.

“The way it’s going at the moment, I do expect him to leave. I think they’re [Tottenham] looking to get him [Ndombele] out because Nuno has seen him since the first day of training and he hasn’t been involved in anything.”

Ndombele is a sad situation. He has so much talent but it is coming to a crossroads but it seems near impossible for Spurs to get £51m for him in the next few days.

The saga needs resolving as the French midfielder is too good to be on the bench. He needs to be playing regularly or sold for a good fee.
