Tottenham-linked defender admits ‘much is open’ about his future

Borussia Monchengladbach defender, Matthias Ginter, who has been linked with a move to Tottenham, has admitted that his future is very much up in the air.

Ginter, who has been a consistent performer for Gladbach over the last five years, was allegedly on the North London club’s radar over the summer (Bild via Sport Witness).

The versatile German international is now into the final 12 months of his contract and Tottenham are thought to be monitoring his situation.

Gladbach sporting director Max Eberl admitted at the start of the month that the club were unable to make a suitable offer to the 27-year-old due to the financial impact of the pandemic.

Ginter himself revealed a couple of weeks ago that he has not received any information from Gladbach regarding his contract situation.

The centre-back has now further elaborated on his future, admitting that the situation is ‘now tricky’ and that anything could happen.

Ginter told Kicker: “A year ago I would have signed (a new contract with Gladbach) blindly because the club was and is important to me.

“The situation is incredibly tricky. But it is difficult to foresee something now. Much is open.”

I am not sure that Paratici and Nuno would be prioritising signing a new centre-back in January, although the situation could change depending on how the likes of Dier and Romero perform over the next couple of months. As things stand, another attacker/forward and a central midfielder should be bigger priorities for the club.
