Tottenham-linked Joao Felix opens up on his future amidst transfer rumours

Atletico Madrid star Joao Felix, who is rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar, has ruled out the possibility of leaving the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium this summer.

Felix has not quite hit the expected heights since his mega-money move from Benfica to the Spanish capital in the summer of 2019.

Barca Times journalist Shay Lugassi has revealed last week that Diego Simeone is willing to cash in on Felix this summer and that the forward has been offered to a number of clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain.

The Daily Express subsequently claimed that the Portuguese international’s availability has alerted Tottenham, who are looking to add to their forward line this summer.

The report added that Spurs could explore the possibility of using Giovani Lo Celso as a makeweight in a deal to bring Felix to North London, given Atletico’s interest in the Argentine.

However, the striker has now insisted that he has no plans to leave Atletico this summer.

Felix told Portuguese outlet Maisfutebol: “A departure from Atletico is not on the table. I’m fine and focused on Atletico. I am calm about the future [and] aware of what I can do, and I’m good with myself. I’m still on vacation.

“I have just started training to prepare for the pre-season, but I don’t think too much about football. Of course, I grew up. Four years have passed since I left Benfica, and I have grown physically, technically and mentally. It is normal to evolve. I did things well to get better and better.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Atletico were never going to let someone of Felix’s ability go and even if they did, they would have likely demanded a huge chunk of the £114m fee (Daily Mail) they paid to sign him from Benfica. So, the 22-year-old was never really a realistic target for Spurs.
