Tottenham-linked striker admits Harry Kane is his ‘inspiration’

Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, who has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur this summer, has admitted that he looks up to Harry Kane.

Osimhen has matured into one of the most complete centre-forwards in Serie A since joining Napoli from Lille back in 2020.

The Nigerian international has enjoyed a fantastic 2021/22 campaign, with 18 goals and six assists to his name across all competitions (Transfermarkt).

Alasdair Gold said on his YouTube channel back in May that Osimhen was one of the strikers on Tottenham’s radar this summer, and the North London club have had their eye on the 23-year-old since his Lille days.

Italian journalist Lorenzo Amuso also stated last month that both Spurs and Arsenal were considering making a move for the Napoli star this summer (Calciomercato.it).

However, Antonio Conte’s men eventually ended up signing Richarlison instead, with the Brazilian joining from Everton in a deal that could rise to £60m including add-ons (Sky Sports).

Osimhen has now revealed he is happy in Naples but the striker named two Premier League greats in Kane and Didier Drogba as the players he looks up to.

He told Corriere dello Sport (24/07/22 edition – via Fabrizio Romano): “I’m very happy at Napoli, I feel really good here. This city makes me happy. My inspirations are Harry Kane and Didier Drogba”.

Spurs Web Opinion

If for one reason or another Kane decides not to extend his contract, thus leaving Spurs with no choice but to cash in on him next summer, I believe Osimhen will be the obvious candidate to replace the England captain, especially now that Vlahovic is not in the market.

The 23-year-old does not only know where the back of the net is but he is very much a complete centre-forward, given his ability to hold up the ball and bring others into play. I can see him thriving in Conte’s system, much like Lukaku did at Inter.
