Tottenham-linked striker once admitted he used to support Arsenal

Crotone striker Simeon Nwankwo, who is rumoured to be on Tottenham Hotspur’s radar this summer, once admitted that he grew up supporting Arsenal.

Reports indicate that Nuno Espirito Santo is keen to add another striker to his squad before the transfer window shuts as the Portuguese coach is planning on employing a formation with two up front next season.

Nwankwo is one of the players that Fabio Paratici is thought to have his eye on after the striker enjoyed a prolific season last time out.

The Nigerian international scored 20 goals in the Serie A last campaign which is even more impressive when you consider that Crotone finished the campaign in the drop zone, amassing just 23 points.

However, the rumoured Spurs target’s latest revelation will do little to endear him to the Tottenham faithful, with the 29-year-old admitting to being a big fan of their North London rivals since his compatriot Kanu played for the Gunners.

The striker said (Gazzetta dello Sport): “I was cheering for Arsenal. Because Kanu was playing there.”

I am surprised that no club has tried to snap up Nwankwo yet after Crotone’s relegation but perhaps that speaks to the lack of funds around European football on the back of the pandemic. It does not appear as if the Nigerian is at the top of Paratici’s wishlist as far as Tottenham’s striker search is concerned.
