Tottenham-linked wing-back admits he is ready to make a big transfer move

AZ Alkmaar left-back Owen Wijndal, who has been linked with a move to Tottenham over recent weeks, has admitted that he is ready for a move away from the Dutch club.

Tottenham have already strengthened at left wing-back this summer by snapping up Ivan Perisic on a free transfer.

According to reports, Antonio Conte also rates Ryan Sessegnon highly and expects the Croat to mentor the England Under-21 international and help him evolve into a top wing-back (Football.London’s Alasdair Gold).

However, Foot Mercato reported two weeks ago that Spurs also have their eye on another left-back in the form of Wijndal, with the report suggesting that the North London club had begun talks with Alkmaar over a deal for the player.

The 22-year-old has evolved into one of the stand-out wing-backs in the Eredivisie over the last three years and finished the 2021/22 campaign with 10 assists in 31 league appearances (Transfermarkt).

The Netherlands international has now said that he is ready to take the next step in his career but he added that he would be happy to remain at Alkmaar unless the right move presents itself.

Wijndal told ESPN Netherlands: “I think I am ready for (a big move). But I have also indicated in previous interviews that it must be a club I feel really good at. Otherwise, I will happily and proudly stay at AZ. That is always the case.”

Spurs Web Opinion

The fact that Spurs continue to be liked with up-and-coming left wing-backs like Owen Wijndal and Destiny Udogie despite the arrival of Perisic, is quite interesting.  Perhaps that suggests that Fabio Paratici is trying to futureproof by looking for Perisic’s successor when the Croat eventually departs in a couple of years.
