Report: Spurs linked with move for player with €100m transfer release clause

Tottenham Hotspur are once again being linked with a move for Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Spanish news outlet Estadio Deportivo are claiming that the Georgian international is expected to leave the La Liga outfit this summer since he is ‘practically a guaranteed sale’.

Fichajes.net claimed back in December that Tottenham were monitoring Mamardashvili’s situation at the Mestalla due to their current financial difficulties.

Spurs moved earlier this summer to bring in Guglielmo Vicario as the club’s new number one after Hugo Lloris decided that he wanted to seek a fresh challenge elsewhere.

Tottenham linked with move for Giorgi Mamardashvili

The report claims that Tottenham along with London rivals Chelsea have both shown an interest in bringing the 23-year-old to the Premier League.

Mamardashvili’s current contract has a €100m transfer release clause which is not likely to be triggered at such an astronomical amount.

It would seem hugely unlikely that Tottenham would look to bring in another goalkeeper this summer given how impressive Vicario has been in his first season at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

To take up another non-homegrown spot by a second goalkeeper would be crazy when we already have English-born Fraser Forster, Alfie Whiteman and Brandon Austin already on the books.
