Tottenham loan clause means one player could choose his own January future

A small contractual detail could yet have a say in Tottenham’s January plans, with a fringe situation abroad leaving one player weighing up his next move.

Manor Solomon had to wait until very close to transfer deadline day last summer before he could secure a loan move to Villarreal.

The Israeli did impress in his opening few games for the Yellow Submarine, managing a goal and an assist in his first two La Liga matches.

However, in recent months and weeks, game time has been hard to come by for the Spurs forward, who is now understood to be considering his future in Spain.

Tottenham loan clause leaves Manor Solomon decision looming

According to Onda Cero, it is believed that Manor Solomon has not ruled out leaving Villarreal due to his limited game time.

If the Tottenham man were to leave, it would free up space, both in Villarreal’s squad and on their wage bill.

The Spanish side is also believed to be focusing more on outgoings than incomings in January, with Solomon described as one of the ‘hot potatoes’ they currently have. As such, they are seeking a solution for the 26-year-old.

Spurs’ option gives Solomon control over next move

Solomon, though, is not entirely stranded, and his future is not solely in the hands of Villarreal. That is because there is a release clause that will allow him to cut short his loan stay in January.

The Israeli international has played only five matches since the October international break, and it is stated that he is not happy with his situation and is considering his future at Villarreal.

Should he cut his loan spell short and return to Spurs in the winter, Thomas Frank will then have to decide on the winger’s future.
