Man Utd step up pursuit of Spurs transfer target

If you have followed Spurs Web’s coverage, you will know Manchester United substantiated their interest in Lecce’s Patrick Dorgu this month, a player who was on Tottenham’s radar.

The Athletic’s David Ornstein revealed that United had begun talks over a deal for the 20-year-old and those discussions were ‘progressing’.

The Red Devils then launched multiple bids for the Lecce man while Tottenham were also jolted into action. However, it is Man United who have now won the race, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Tottenham opened talks with Patrick Dorgu, but alas

TBR Football reported this week that Tottenham have been kept informed of Dorgu‘s situation and they even contacted the player’s camp in an attempt to barge into the race.

However, United were always said to be ‘confident’ of striking a deal with Lecce over the ‘coming days’ as talks progress.

That confidence has now turned into success, with Man United having a £29.4m total package deal accepted by Lecce this week. It seems Spurs will miss out on their left-back target.

Manchester United agree a deal for Patrick Dorgu

Fabrizio Romano has given the Dorgu to Man United deal his ‘here we go’ seal of approval, with the Red Devils paying €30m plus another €5m in non-guaranteed add-ons (£25.2m plus £4.2m).

Romano says the ‘verbal agreement is in place with Lecce’ and the ‘documents are to be checked in next 24 hours’. Man United have already agreed a long-term contract with the player himself.
