Tottenham made a last-ditch attempt to complete £5m deadline day transfer

Sky Sports journalist Michael Bridge has now revealed that Tottenham revisited their interest in a target in the final hours of the transfer window.

Spurs fans were desperately hoping that the Lilywhites would manage to pull a rabbit out of the bag on deadline and bring a big-name attacker through the door.

However, those hopes were quashed as transfer deadline day was very quiet at Hotspur Way, with Spurs only managing to add to their academy ranks by landing Scottish teenager James Wilson.

Tottenham fans are livid that the club did not strengthen their forward line in January despite the club’s injury crisis and their struggles in attack.

Tottenham made one final attempt to sign defender

However, it turns out that the Lilywhites made one final attempt to see if they could push through a late deal for an experienced Premier League defender.

Earlier in the window, Liverpool blocked Andy Robertson’s move to Spurs after being unable to recall Kostas Tsimikas from Roma.

Michael Bridge revealed that Thomas Frank’s men touched base with the Reds again on deadline day to see if a move was on the cards, only for them to be denied again.

Reporting from Tottenham’s training ground, Bridge said on deadline day to Sky Sports (via GiveMeSport): “Our information was that a check call has gone in just to see if Liverpool’s position has changed as to the availability of Andy Robertson, but that’s a no.”

Robertson deal may prove more challenging for Spurs in the summer

With the 31-year-old’s contract running out at Anfield in June, one would expect Tottenham to go back in for Robertson in the summer.

However, striking a deal with the Scotland international may prove more complicated for the Lilywhites at the end of the season. Spurs are likely to face a lot more competition from across Europe for Robertson when he becomes a free agent.
