Tottenham make Micky van de Ven transfer decision that will hurt Liverpool hopes

Tottenham Hotspur have made a decision on the future of Micky van de Ven amid claims he could be lured away in the summer.

Over the past 12 months, Van de Ven has been linked with some of the biggest clubs in Europe, with the Dutchman’s stock growing with every appearance.

The latest club to be linked with the Spurs defender are Liverpool, who have reportedly identified Van de Ven as their top target for next summer.

It has been suggested that the Reds are ready to spend big on the Tottenham man, who they see as the long-term heir to Virgil van Dijk.

Tottenham name Micky van de Ven price tag as he pushes to leave

A new report in talkSPORT has now claimed that the Netherlands international is pushing to leave the Lilywhites at the end of the season to join an elite club in the Premier League or Europe.

The outlet also references the reports linking Van de Ven with a move to Anfield, but suggests that the Reds are unlikely to repeat their spending spree from last summer.

The report makes it clear that Spurs will not make it easy for the 24-year-old, who is contracted until 2029, to leave the club.

The North Londoners reportedly value Van de Ven at over £100m, which, if met by any club, would make him the most valuable defender in football history, beating out the £80m Man United paid for Harry Maguire in 2019.

Van de Ven’s future could be tied to Thomas Frank’s

In his press conference on Thursday, Frank insisted that Van de Ven is happy at Spurs and brushed off claims that he might be leaving.

However, interestingly, it has been suggested that the Spurs centre-back might only stay at N17 if Frank departs the club.

That claim was made recently by journalist Dean Jones, who suggested that Tottenham would have to replace Frank with an elite manager to convince Van de Ven to stay.
