Tottenham make sack decision for Ange Postecoglou ahead of AZ Alkmaar

Tottenham Hotspur face a huge clash tomorrow against AZ Alkmaar as they try to overcome a 1-0 deficit from the first leg, and a new report has now revealed if a possible elimination from the Europa League for Spurs could see Ange Postecoglou being sacked.

Tottenham Hotspur were beaten 1-0 by Alkmaar last week at the AFAS Stadium but the Lilywhites will be optimistic of being able to turn around the tie in front of their own fans in N17 tomorrow.

Ange Postecoglou is confident that Spurs have the tools to break down Alkmaar despite their inability to do so in the first leg.

The Australian’s long-term future at the club may depend on how far Tottenham go in the Europa League. The North London club’s season hinges on European success as they continue to be mired in midtable mediocrity in the Premier League.

Tottenham will not sack Ange Postecoglou yet

Football Insider have now claimed that even if Tottenham were to be eliminated from the Europa League by Alkmaar, they are not likely to sack Postecoglou immediately.

The report explains that the AZ clash is ‘huge’ for the Australian’s future at Hotspur Way, but the club will not rush into any decision.

Instead, Spurs will hold a review of the 2024-25 season when the campaign comes to a close, which is when they will make a decision on whether to continue with Postecoglou at the helm.

The injury crisis that the club have been hit with this season is expected to be held up as a mitigating factor for the 59-year-old.

Spurs hierarchy remain optimistic about Europa League chances

Football Insider explains that the Spurs top brass still retain hope in the current project and are optimistic that the side can go far in the Europa League.

With key players returning to action over the past few weeks, there is belief at Tottenham that the side can have a strong end to the season.

Postecoglou will be desperate for his side to come through for him against Alkmaar and set up a big quarterfinal tie with either Eintracht Frankfurt or Ajax.
