Tottenham make surprising inclusion in Europa League squad for knockout stages

Jose Mourinho has made a surprise inclusion in Tottenham’s Europa League squad for the knockout stages, with The Daily Mail revealing that youngster Marcel Lavinier has made the cut.

Tottenham will resume their European campaign later this month as Jose Mourinho’s men travel to Austria to take on Wolfsberger in the first leg of the Round of 16 tie on February 18.

Mourinho has confirmed that Joe Rodon has not been included in the squad due to the limits regarding the number of foreign-trained players.

However, the Spurs boss has managed to find room for Lavinier on the A-list, who joined from Chelsea’s academy in the summer.

The 20-year-old right-back has made 12 appearances for Tottenham’s Under-23s this campaign and has put in some solid displays.

The Portuguese youngster is yet to make his senior debut for the North Londoners but it appears as if he has impressed Mourinho.

It remains to be seen if the Spurs boss hands the former Chelsea youngster a run out in the competition.

I do not expect Lavinier to get any minutes unless Tottenham find themselves in a commanding position and Jose decides to throw some youngsters on in the final ten minutes like he did in the group stages. However, just being included in the squad would be a big boost for the youngster’s confidence.
