A senior member of the Tottenham Hotspur leadership has confirmed that big changes are being made to Hotspur Way before the start of the 2026-27 season.

Tottenham have acted with urgency this transfer window to rebuild their squad, with the Lilywhites seemingly having got a reality check after almost being relegated from the Premier League.

They are also looking to learn from their mistakes, with Spurs beginning an investigation into all areas of the club to find out where the club have fallen short over recent seasons.

The Telegraph reported last month that sweeping changes are expected to be made to Tottenham’s medical department, and it has now emerged that the club are also looking to make big improvements in another area.

Tottenham improve Hotspur Way facilities to aid players

Football.London explains that while Tottenham’s training ground was seen as state-of-the-art when it opened 14 years ago, there is now a feeling among the staff that it is an environment geared towards comfort rather than performance.

The coaches at the club feel that some of the facilities, including the first-team gym, are not up to the standard of Europe’s big clubs.

As a result, improvements are now underway at the Hotspur Way complex to ensure that Roberto De Zerbi and his players get more of a competitive advantage.

This was confirmed by CEO Vinai Venkatesham, who explained in his recent meeting with the Fan Advisory Board (FAB) that a new breifing room will be added and the gym will be improved as part of some big chances to the training ground.

As per the published minutes of the meeting, Venkatesham said: “Football and performance are now positioned at the centre of decision-making which has led to numerous changes. An example being work is underway to reshape the first-team environment in the training centre, including a new player briefing/tactical room, a complete transformation to the gym, changes to the player restaurant and making the building feel like a true performance environment. The close season is the first window where changes of this scale can be commenced.”

Vinai Venkatesham also confirms changes to academy and performance departments

The Spurs CEO also announced in the meeting that further investments will be made into the club’s academy to strenthen their talent pipeline.

He also confirmed that the club’s new performance director, Dan Lewindon, has begun work on improving the medical and performance operations.

Venkatesham added in his meeting with FAB: “The academy has seen significant transformation over the past couple of years, but since the Autumn significant further investment has been made available to strengthen the talent pipeline as a key priority across all age groups, while acknowledging that outcomes would take time to become visible.

“In July, a global search for a new Performance Director was started with Dan Lewindon appointed in October. He joined in February following his notice period and has reviewed medical and performance operations. This has led to a significant number of personnel changes since the season concluded, the first opportunity to practically be able to make changes of this scale.”
