The print edition of L’Equipe (as relayed by Chris Cowlin) have handed Ryan Sessegnon a rating of just 2/10 for his performance against Marseille.
L’Equipe have a reputation for being quite critical in their player ratings, with the publication not known to give high scores often. In fact, N’Golo Kante only got 3/10 in the 2018 World Cup final despite France winning the competition (The Athletic).
The publication have not been kind to many of the Spurs players despite the Lilywhites emerging 2-1 winners at the Stade Velodrome on Tuesday and finishing at the top of Group D.
Sessegnon, who surprisingly started as a right wing-back on Tuesday, and was replaced by Emerson Royal at half-time, got a rating of just 2/10.
He was not the only Tottenham star to be handed a low rating, with Eric Dier, Ben Davies and Lucas Moura getting just 4/10 while goalscorer Clement Leglet was handed a 5/10, as did the man who assisted him, Ivan Perisic.
Spurs Web Opinion
Sessegnon did struggle in the first half and never looked comfortable on the right. So, I do not think the rating handed to him is completely unfair. However, I am surprised that Rodrigo Bentancur and Harry Kane were handed just a 6 as I thought they were both excellent on Tuesday.
