Tottenham man makes shortlist for Golden Boy award 

Destiny Udogie has made the 20-player shortlist for the Golden Boy Award 2022, The Athletic have revealed.

The Golden Boy is one of the most prestigious awards that can be bestowed upon a young footballer, with the likes of Lionel Messi, Wayne Rooney and Sergio Aguero having won it in the past.

The award is given to the best young player in Europe over a calendar year, with only those under the age of 21 considered for the prize.

Italian publication Tuttosport initially released a list of 100 players who were shortlisted for the award and that list has now been reduced to 20.

Udogie is joined in the shortlist by the likes of RB Salzburg’s Karim Adeyemi, Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham, Real Madrid’s Eduardo Camavinga, Liverpool’s Fabio Carvalho, Bayern Munich’s Ryan Gravenberch and Barcelona trio Ansu Fati, Pedri and Gavi.

Udogie is certainly in great company there and his inclusion in the shortlist shows how highly thought of the youngster is.

The 19-year-old has had a bright start to the season and if he continues developing in the same pace that he has been over the last year and a half, Tottenham will have an amazing player on their hands.
