Tottenham manager meets with Real Madrid chief

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino penned a new five-year deal this summer, putting an end to speculation over the Argentinian’s future.

However, Spanish newspaper Marca have reported this week that the Spurs boss had a meeting with Real Madrid chief Florentino Perez at the FIFA Best Awards.

Real Madrid were rumoured to want Pochettino to replace Zinedine Zidane after he left the club unexpectedly, but after Poch signed a new contract, they snapped up Spain boss Julen Lopetegui instead.

The meeting was likely only a friendly catch up out of respect, as Pochettino used to manage in Spain with Espanyol of course.

The Tottenham boss may one day end up at Real, but it appears that this may be some way in the future, if it ever happens at all.

Some Spurs fans may be worried though, as Poch has made it clear in the past that he would listen to any Madrid approach.

Pochettino told El Confidencial: “When Real Madrid call you, you have to listen to them.

“Although in this case it doesn’t depend on me. I have just signed a long contract with Tottenham and I am very happy here.

“I am happy at Tottenham because they let me work and we are growing together.

“There will be lots of rumours, lots of things said, but I have no news from Real Madrid.”
