Tottenham manager on Brighton at the weekend

Tottenham slumped to their third successive defeat on Tuesday evening, losing 2-1 to Inter Milan in the Champions League.

Spurs had led through an Eriksen goal on the 53rd minute, and controlled the game up until the 85th where a Mario Icardi wonder volley, followed by a Vecino header stole the three points away.

This came after consecutive Premier League losses against Watford and Liverpool, both of which were also 2-1.

Spurs now sit 6th in the Premier League table, six points off the leaders Chelsea and Liverpool.

Tottenham and Pochettino are in desperate need of not only a win this weekend away to Brighton, but a big win. They need to make a statement to their Prem rivals that they are still a threat this campaign.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has been speaking to the press ahead of the clash with Brighton: “Like any other. Every game is important, we are still at the beginning of the season, there is many things to improve.

“I think the potential f the team is massive. It is important to stop the negativity of the results but there is no doubt the team is going to take the result in the next game and if not the next and the next.”

When asked if he would be making changes for the match, Poch replied: Yes of course, it’s the plan. We have a plan and then you win or you lose, but the plan is to help the player arrive in some moment in their best. Of course, the circumstances are completely different.

“I told you before the start of the season, it’s a massive challenge this season because the circumstances are completely different than in the past. The same when we won against Newcastle, Fulham or Manchester United. We made changes and we rotated and helped the team.

“When you lose it’s the same. When you win or lose you need to have a plan and to try to deliver it or you cannot change if you win our lose. If you are strong in the end you will have success. If you change it’s difficult to have success because you cannot work day by day.”

On Harry Kane and his confidence: “Harry Kane is one of the best players we have and that is not in doubt. After three games is not too much it is three games where he didn’t score. All strikers suffer a period where they don’t score.

“But of course, because Harry Kane is so important for us and if he doesn’t score we struggle a little bit to win, I don’t have doubt that he is going to perform better in the future and score goals because he is a great player.”

And finally, Poch was asked whether he regrets not buying anyone in the summer: “I stick with the decision we have made in the past, it is easy to blame or regret different things, that is the easy think to do to escape and avoid responsibility.

“I am not going to avoid the responsibility or regret. We assess everything we do because we want to improve but the circumstances are the circumstances, the decision is the decision.

“After Manchester United it was completely different the perception and the opinions after three victories and now after three defeats it seems different but not in my eyes.”

What do you think about Poch’s comments? And can Spurs finally get another win this weekend against Brighton?
