Micky van de Ven has revealed exactly what he thinks about Cristian Romero at Tottenham, hailing his defensive partner as a leader and an ‘unbelievable’ player.
Of course, many Tottenham fans would agree that the club’s best defensive partnership features both Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero at the heart of the backline.
However, injuries have disrupted their time together this season, with Romero missing a number of matches and van de Ven sidelined for 28 games due to fitness issues.
Now, both have since returned from injury and are in contention to feature for Tottenham in their clash against Chelsea on Thursday night.

Micky Van de Ven praises ‘unbelievable’ Cristian Romero amid Tottenham transfer rumours
Of course, this partnership could soon be broken up permanently if Romero leaves Tottenham, as recent reports have suggested.
Atletico Madrid have reportedly held talks with Romero’s representatives, while Real Madrid are also said to be keeping an eye on the situation.
Speaking on the ‘One on One’ podcast, van de Ven shared his thoughts on Romero’s contributions at Tottenham since his own arrival at the club.
The Dutchman had nothing but praise for his defensive partner, describing him as ‘unbelievable’ and a true leader
“Unbelievable player, so good,” van de Ven said. “He’s also been out this season for quite a long time, but when he comes back, you see he plays straight away for Argentina, he plays for us, he’s unbelievable.
“Even at the beginning of this season and last season, also the games I played alongside him, unbelievable player. He helped me from day one when I came in here, he was there for me, and he always backed me up.
“Yeah, he’s an unbelievable player, like I said already—on the ball, off the ball—a true leader, I would say.”
Spurs need to prepare for life without Romero
With Romero looking increasingly likely to leave Spurs this summer as he pushes for Champions League football, Tottenham will have to be on the lookout for a replacement.
Over the last few weeks, a number of names have been linked, including Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba and Sporting’s Ousmane Diomande.
Of course, Marc Guehi is another option, given that Spurs made a bid for him in the January window—one that Crystal Palace rejected.
Indeed, if Tottenham want to find a replacement within the Premier League, Guehi would be a solid choice.
