Tottenham may get a midfield injury boost ahead of Man Utd clash

Tottenham Hotspur have had terrible luck with injuries this season with several important players including the likes of Jan Vertonghen, Mousa Dembele, and Danny Rose having missed considerable parts of the season so far.

One position where Spurs have been hit terribly is in the central midfield area with Mousa Dembele, Victor Wanyama, and Eric Dier all missing the last several weeks of action. This has meant that Pochettino has been forced to stick with a pairing of Winks and Sissoko in midfield throughout the busy festive period.

While both players have performed admirably, there is a real risk of burnout given that the pair have been featuring twice a week for a couple of months. When Pochettino has wished to change things up in midfield, he has only had young Oliver Skipp to turn to on the bench for the past few weeks.

However, it appears that Spurs fans might be getting some good news on the injury front, as the Evening Standard reports that Eric Dier has been progressing well from the surgery he had to remove his appendix. In fact, the report claims that the 24-year-old defensive midfielder has returned to full training and could be involved against Man Utd on Sunday.

If Dier is indeed fit enough to at least make the bench, he would certainly prove a valuable asset if Spurs wish to see out a lead on Sunday.
