Tottenham may have a Micky van de Ven battle on their hands this summer

Reports claim that Real Madrid have set their sights on Tottenham Hotspur’s Micky van de Ven as a potential signing this summer.

Just like Tottenham Hotspur this season, Real Madrid’s defence has been significantly stretched because of injuries.

This has led head coach Carlo Ancelotti to play some of his players out of position in a bid to deal with their lack of defensive cover.

Given their injury crisis, the Spanish outfit are said to be looking to rectify their lack of defensive depth by making signings this summer and Tottenham’s Micky van de Ven has emerged as a target.

Real Madrid show interest in Tottenham’s Micky van de Ven

According to Fichajes, the current Champions League holders have set their sights on five young centre-backs ahead of the summer window.

The outlet reports that William Saliba, Micky Van de Ven, Castello Lukeba, Jarrad Branthwaite, and Antonio Silva are the players favoured by the Spanish giants.

However, there is an understanding that luring any one of their five targets will not be easy, given their status as some of the best in the world.

Real Madrid also recognises that these players will not come cheap. According to Fichajes, it will cost between 57 and 100 million pounds to lure any one of these players from their clubs.

Despite their determination to strengthen their defence this summer, it has been reported that Real Madrid will not just pay any amount.

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou has been without the services of van de Ven for the majority of the season along with his central defensive partner Cristian Romero, who has not played since the 4-3 defeat to Chelsea in December.

Real Madrid’s interest is no surprise

It is hardly surprising that Real Madrid are interested in signing Micky van de Ven from Spurs. The 23-year-old centre-back is quick, versatile, and has played at the highest level for most of his career—having spent time in Germany and now in England.

Tottenham Hotspur’s current Premier League position does not help matters, as there is a real possibility of the Lilywhites missing out on Champions League football with success in the Europa League being the club’s only realistic chance of returning to play in European football’s most prestigious club competition.

If the club fails to secure UCL qualification, transfer links will only intensify over the summer, with bigger clubs aiming to poach their best players.
