Tottenham midfielder becomes latest target of online abuse

Erik Lamela has become the latest Tottenham player to be subjected to online abuse, with the Argentine sharing a screenshot of the hateful message targeted at him and his family.

A number of players from across the Premier League have been targeted with abuse from fans on social media over the course of this campaign, including several Tottenham stars.

Steven Bergwijn was targeted by some fans after the Dutchman failed to convert his chances during Tottenham’s 2-1 loss to Liverpool in December.

Davinson Sanchez and Son Heung-min have been racially abused over the past couple of months, with some fans being sanctioned for targetting the South Korean.

All Premier League clubs came together a couple of weeks ago to boycott social media for a weekend in order to send a message to the platforms about doing more to combat online abuse.

However, that does not seem to have worked, with Lamela becoming the latest victim to be abused. The Argentine shared the abusive message targeted at him on Instagram and insisted that people do not change.
