Tottenham miss out on reported defensive target as Ligue 1 club confirm signing

Monaco have now confirmed their capture of Axel Disasi, who was rumoured to be on Tottenham Hotspur’s radar this summer.

The central defender has enjoyed a terrific season in the heart of the Reims defence, with his competent and mature displays capturing the attention of several clubs across Europe.

Tottenham reportedly sent scouts to France to watch the 22-year-old in action this season, while the likes of Arsenal and West Ham were also keeping tabs (Daily Mail).

L’Equipe claimed back in June that Wolves were also keen on the defender’s services and had made a £13.5million bid for him.

Reims president, Jean-Pierre Cailot admitted last month that the Ligue 1 side had received multiple offers for the Frenchman (But Football Club).

However, it looks like former Spurs director of football, Paul Mitchell, has stolen a march on his former employers and made Disasi his first signing since swapping Leipzig for Monte Carlo.

If the rumoured £12 million price tag is accurate, then this is potentially a great deal for Monaco, with Disasi having the ability to double or triple his value over the next year or two. The fact that we did not try to sign the central defender at that modest price suggests that we have prioritised other targets.
