Tottenham missed out on one of the best players in the world

Reports out of Spain today suggest that Tottenham Hotspur failed to act on a scout’s tip to sign Marco Asensio from Mallorca back in 2014.

During Pochettino’s first season at Spurs, a scout went to watch the young star and instantly recommended that the club make a move.

This was before any interest from Real Madrid, who would go on to eventually sign Asensio.

The 22-year-old Spanish international has gone from strength to strength over the past two years, breaking his way into the Real Madrid first team with some sensational performances.

The young attacker is now regarded as one of the most promising players in the world, rubbing salt into the Tottenham wounds.

The scout who suggested signing Asensio, Ramon Planes, went on to move to Barcelona as an assistant to technical secretary Eric Abidal.

Liverpool were rumoured to have bid £160m for the player this summer.

Did Spurs miss out on one of the best young players in the world? How much would Asensio be worth now?
