Tottenham now ‘front-runners’ to land big-name £70m superstar in January

Tottenham Hotspur have now been named as the most likely destination for a Real Madrid star in the January transfer window.

The left-wing area has been a problem for Spurs this season. Although Wilson Odobert has shown signs that he can be the long-term solution in that position, Thomas Frank may want an immediate fix.

It has been suggested that, in order to solve the problem, the Lilywhites may turn to a player they explored a move for during the summer transfer window.

It was reported last week that Tottenham may be alerted to the potential availability of Rodrygo in January after their failed attempt to prise him away from the Santiago Bernabeu in a £70m deal in the summer.

A few days ago, journalist Dean Jones claimed that the Real Madrid star is the kind of marquee signing that Spurs want to make to signal their ambition.

Tottenham installed as favourites to sign Rodrygo

A new report in Fichajes now claims that the pacy winger ‘wants to feel important’ again after falling down the pecking order at Madrid and is not ruling out a change of scenery in January.

With Rodrygo having set his sights on becoming a key player for Brazil in next summer’s World Cup, he could be tempted to force a move away in January.

The outlet reveals that Premier League clubs such as Arsenal, Manchester City, and Liverpool explored a move for the winger during the summer.

However, ahead of the January window, it is Tottenham who have emerged as the frontrunners to sign Rodrygo.

What is Real Madrid’s stance on Rodrygo?

Fichajes say that Madrid are now assessing the situation closely and are yet to make a final decision on the wide-man.

While Xabi Alonso’s men do not want to make a hasty decision on Rodrygo, a transfer could be on the cards if an attractive offer arrives.

The publication adds that ‘everything will depend on the coming weeks’ and whether the winger manages to make himself a more important part of Alonso’s plans at the Spanish capital.
