Tottenham Hotspur have officially confirmed the season-long loan signing of 26-year-old goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini from Atalanta with the option to make it permanent.
Previous reports have indicated that Gollini will join on an initial loan basis, with Spurs having the option to sign him permanently for £12.9m at the end of the campaign.
Gollini has been at the heart of Atalanta’s progress for the past three seasons, not only in Serie A but also in the Champions League.
The shot-stopped clocked up 32 games between the sticks for Atalanta last season, recording 13 clean sheets in that time (TransferMarkt).
Tottenham’s goalkeeping situation was beginning to look uncertain this summer, with Paulo Gazzaniga leaving on a free and both Hugo Lloris and Joe Hart entering the final year of their respective contracts.
Spurs Web Opinion:
Although I expect Hugo Lloris to remain and be the number one this season, it was important for Spurs to start looking into the future. The Frenchman will likely leave on a free next summer at age 35 and getting in a replacement now is both cheaper and allows Gollini to bed into the squad.
