Tottenham officially confirm 25-year-old has left the club on season loan

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that Sergio Reguilon has joined Atletico Madrid on a season-long loan deal.

The Spanish international returns to La Liga to join Atletico as a replacement for Brazil international Renan Lodi, who has made the switch to Premier League newcomers Nottingham Forest on loan (Evening Standard).

Lodi was in the stands at the City Ground on Sunday afternoon to see his new side fall to a 2-0 defeat to Tottenham courtesy of a brace from Harry Kane.

The Athletic claimed last week that it is thought the deal to take Reguilon to Atletico will not include the option to make the deal permanent at the end o the campaign (The Athletic).

Reguilon’s Spurs career started with promise with his pace being the main asset of his game, but he fell short of confidence and as a result, his performance levels dropped at both ends of the pitch.

The 24-year-old was once mooted as potentially returning to Real Madrid as part of their buyback option, however, he must now look to rebuild his career with Diego Simeone’s side.
