Spurs looking to reinforce their backline in the summer

Tottenham added to their centre-back stocks in January with the signing of Kevin Danso from Lens, which means that Ange Postecoglou has five full-time centre-backs at his disposal, including Ben Davies, while Archie Gray also has excelled in that role this season.

However, a number of the club’s defenders are injury-prone, including their first-choice pairing, Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, and reports suggest that Spurs are concerned about losing the Argentine at the end of the season.

That is perhaps why the Lilywhites are looking to reinforce that area in the summer, and it has now emerged that they have set their sights on one teenage defender who has won many admirers in his debut Premier League season.

Tottenham one of several clubs keen on Dean Huijsen

Dean Huijsen is continuing to impress in the heart of the Bournemouth backline since swapping Juventus for the South Coast last summer, and a number of top clubs are thought to be keeping an eye on the youngster.

According to CaughtOffside, Dean Huijsen features on the summer shopping lists of Tottenham, Man Utd, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain.

The report reveals that the Spain Under-21 international has a release clause of £50m in his contract, but the Cherries are trying to get him to sign a new deal so that they can increase the value of the clause.

So far, none of these interested clubs have initiated any talks with Bournemouth or the player’s entourage.

Tottenham have to improve to compete for top players

There is no doubt that Spurs have the resources to battle any of these clubs for the best players in the Premier League and across Europe, with the club well placed in terms of the PSR regulations.

However, for Postecoglou‘s men may face some issues when it comes to attracting the creme de la creme as they will have to convince these players that they can fulfil their trophy ambitions at N17.

That is why it is imperative that Spurs manage to turn their form around and have a respectable end to the campaign.
