Tottenham pair up for Premier League awards

Two Tottenham Hotspur members of staff are up for February’s Premier League awards after Emerson Royal was nominated in the player of the month category, while Antonio Conte has been recognised in the manager of the month section.

Royal enjoyed a phenomenal February for Tottenham Hotspur. The Brazilian was heavily linked with a move away from north London in the January window (Football Insider), however, survived the right wing-back exodus that saw Matt Doherty and Djed Spence depart.

Since the arrival of Pedro Porro, Royal has stepped up his game dramatically and has been one of Spurs’ star players over the last month. He has two goals in his last six games (Transfermarkt) and has been impressive defensively, too.

The Spurs defender is joined by Kelechi Iheanacho, Bernd Leno, Marcus Rashford, Manor Solomon, and Ollie Watkins in the Premier League player of the month awards.

Conte’s inclusion in the manager of the month category will raise a few eyebrows since the Italian only took charge of one Premier League game last month – the 4-1 defeat at Leicester City.

Assistant manager Cristian Stellini has been standing in for Conte over the last month as the latter recovers from surgery in Italy. It is Stellini who has presided over wins against Manchester City, West Ham, and Chelsea that have seen Spurs rise up the table.

Technically, Stellini is also being recognised in the awards to an extent, but Conte is still the Spurs manager and therefore is the one who gets his name on the nominations. He is joined by Manchester United’s Erik ten Hag and Fulham’s Marco Silva.

Spurs Web Opinion

I can’t believe we have now seen Emerson Royal nominated for the Premier League player of the month award. He’s transformed his game so much over the last couple of months and would genuinely deserve to win.

As for Antonio Conte, I do think his absence from the dugout will cost him here, despite the hard work he will have put in from afar.
