Johnny Cardoso’s release clause

When Tottenham Hotspur sanctioned the sale of Giovani Lo Celso, the club managed to secure a priority option to sign Cardoso for a fee of £21million.

The USA international has been attracting interest from clubs around Europe and in the just concluded winter window, Cardoso signed a new contract with Real Betis.

The signing of this contract does not affect Spurs’ priority option, and neither does it prevent the player from moving this summer.

Johnny Cardoso is probably Bissouma’s replacement

Spurs are looking to rebuild their midfield and the signing of Cardoso could be the start of that rebuild.

According to Football Insider, the USA international is regarded as the “perfect defensive midfielder” and is also highly rated by Spurs.

With Bissouma’s inconsistencies this season, this summer window could see Spurs shift him out. Cardoso’s availability and price tag make him the perfect replacement.

The American midfielder, has already got eighteen caps for his country and has featured 15 times in twenty-two La Liga games for Real Betis.
