Tottenham have had a poor start to the season with many first-team stars seemingly playing below their usual standards and the new signings yet to really get going.
However, Kieran Trippier, who the club sold in the summer, has certainly hit the ground running at his new club. The full back has been in terrific form for Atletico Madrid, already establishing himself as Diego Simeone’s first choice option at right back.
He has made seven starts this season for the club and has registered two assists so far this campaign (Transfermarket.com).
His performances in Madrid saw him earn a recall to the England squad in their Euro 2020 qualifiers against Bulgaria and Kosovo last month. The 29-year-old has once again been called up by Gareth Southgate for the Three Lions squad for the games against the Czech Republic and Bulgaria later this month.
Trippier took to Instagram to reveal his delight at being called up to the squad.
Tottenham youngster Kyle Walker-Peters delivered a one-word verdict on Trippier’s call up. The 22-year-old commented, “deserved” on the England international’s Instagram post.
Spurs Web Opinion
Some Spurs fans seem to think that the club has made a mistake in letting Trippier go given the problems Spurs have had at right back this season. However, I believe the decision to sell him was correct and that he desperately needed a fresh start. I fully expect Juan Foyth to make the right back spot his own after returning from injury.
