Tottenham player ratings from the penalty shootout loss against Inter Milan

Tottenham Hotspur finished their pre-season in defeat today as they lost to Inter Milan on penalties at the new stadium after the game finished 1-1 in normal time.

Pochettino fielded a strong starting line up, but gave a number of youngsters vital minutes as the game went on, leaving an inexperienced XI for the shootout.

Let’s take a look at how the players rated today:

Hugo Lloris – 7

Made a couple of smart stops and his general distribution was good today. Looks ready for the new season after a spell of illness.

Kyle Walker-Peters – 7.5

A high rating for his work rate and his positive driving play today, however, he still has a lot to learn defensively. He was partly at fault for Inter Milan’s goal. Having said that, he is growing into the role nicely.

Davinson Sanchez – 7

Looked strong and quick out there today, although he hasn’t played a lot of minutes since returning from the Copa America. Dwelled on the ball once but a good game from Sanchez.

Jan Vertonghen – 6.5

A fairly relaxed game from Jan Vertonghen today. Perhaps we won’t see as many driving runs forward as the Belgian gets older, but some great defending as always.

Danny Rose – 7.5

Strong in defence and determined in attack. Looks ready for the new season and had a number of quality driving runs today. Would like to see him go on the outside and deliver more though.

Tanguy Ndombele – 7.5

Seems to be growing into his role at a new club. We saw a few more glimpses at his carrying power today, but still a way off what he was producing for Lyon.

Harry Winks – 6.5

Another steady game from the youngster. Didn’t carry the ball too much today but his passing was neat, tidy, and accurate.

Moussa Sissoko – 7

A number of nice powerful runs from the Frenchman today. Really looks ready for another season in that Spurs engine room.

Erik Lamela – 7.5

Started the match really well and looked a constant threat. Set up Tottenham’s goal with a driving run and assist to Moura. However, he tired in the second half.

Lucas Moura – 8.5

What a goal from the Brazilian today. Three goals in pre-season now, Moura is surely a nailed on starter for the Villa match.

Harry Kane – 6

Didn’t really get on the ball too much today, but I am sure there is more to come.

SUBS:

Christian Eriksen – 4

Looked way off the pace. Gave the ball away too often. Missed his penalty. A bad day at the office for Eriksen.

Toby Alderweireld – 7.5

This new short goal kick rule really plays into the hands of Toby and his long raking passes. Looked fab out there again today, wore the armband, and even smashed home a pen.

Heung Min Son – 8

He just always looks lively and willing to be the one to create a spark. Unfortunately, he won’t be available for the Villa match.

Paulo Gazzaniga – 7.5

Did his best in the shootout again by saving one and getting close to a few others. A worthy second choice keeper for this year.

Oliver Skipp – 6

Came on and played the ball about nicely. However, he did give it away a few times and missed a penalty, but credit for stepping forward skippy.

Troy Parrott – 7

Came on and immediately held the ball up well twice and was fouled a couple of times for his trouble. Doesn’t shy away from a challenge this lad. Looking sharp for the new season.

Georges-Kevin Nkoudou – 6

In the match itself, he was pretty ordinary, but I have to bump him up a little for that panenka penalty!

Harvey White – 6.5

Nice to see him come on and have a run out in his actual position. Looks good and calm on the ball. Hopefully, a few more minutes to come for this lad this season.

George Marsh – 5

Came on and filled in at right-back, but had little time to make an impact.

Japhet Tanganga – 5

Came on late and slotted in at centre-back alongside Alderweireld.

Anthony Georgiou – 5.5

Looked bright on the ball after coming on late.
