The full-time whistle has blown in the Premier League clash between Tottenham and Everton, and it is time for our player ratings.
Tottenham full-time player ratings vs Everton
Antonin Kinsky – After being called into action late in the first half, Kinsky was then forced into an early save in the second after Barry came very close with a header from inside the box. Later in the half, he did give the ball away when trying to play out, an error Dewsbury-Hall looked to pounce on, but Kinsky made a fine save. 7.
Archie Gray – The full-back held his own against George in the first half while also offering an attacking threat, linking up well with Savio and making both underlapping and overlapping runs. In the second half, those forward forays and link-up play with Savio were few and far between. 7.
Jan Paul van Hecke – He was very positive with his passing in the first forty-five, often finding attacking players in the pocket. Van Hecke also had a good chance in the first half to give Spurs an early lead after connecting with Robertson’s cross. In the second half, the centre-back maintained his solidity in defence, often getting crucial blocks and tackles in. Whenever crosses came into the box, he was almost always there to get his head on it. 8.
Micky van de Ven – The centre-back was very tight on Barry before the interval, with van de Ven giving the forward little time on the ball. In the second forty-five, he continued to offer defensive cover and, early on in the half, he made a crucial interception, preventing Brennan Johnson from going through on goal. 8.
Andy Robertson – He offered both defensive and offensive cover in the first half, doing well against Johnson and giving the winger little sniff at goal. Robertson also offered cover in attack, often looking to play crosses into the box as he held the width on the left. In the second forty-five, his attacking threat did reduce as he was not as high following the introduction of Tel. 6.5.
Sandro Tonali – The midfielder had one of his better games in a Tottenham shirt as he not only offered defensive cover but also brought some creativity from deep in both halves. In the first forty-five, he did manage to play balls over the Everton defence to release runners from deep. In the second half, we saw him show his ball-carrying ability with driving runs through the midfield to help get Spurs up the field. 7.
Rodrigo Bentancur – Arguably one of Spurs’ best players in the first half as Bentancur was very tidy with the ball at his feet, often making the right decisions when in possession. He was also very good out of possession, covering much ground and offering much defensive cover for Gray whenever he overlapped. He maintained those levels in the second half before he was taken off for Bergvall. 8.
Mateus Fernandes – Not the greatest of first-half performances from the 21-year-old, who did find himself in good shooting positions but often failed to let fly. In the second half, he did manage to take a shot on target, but it was a rather tame effort from range. He was eventually substituted for Mohammed Kudus. 5.
Savio – The winger was a bright spark in attack in the first half as he was full of running, often looking to beat his man and get crosses into the box. Savio continued to remain a threat on the left and often looked to take on his man, but Everton looked to double up on him, leaving Savio with little space to work with. 5.5.
Dominic Solanke – Managing his first start of the campaign, Solanke struggled to have an impact in front of goal in both halves and was taken off on the sixty-minute mark. 5.
Omar Marmoush – In the first half, the new signing was used on the left, although he was a lot more central. In that position, he managed to get a few shots off, but they were often blocked. In the second half, he was used more centrally and still struggled to have a clear sight at goal. 5.
Substitutes
Mohammed Kudus – He came on for Fernandes and got a brief spell in the number ten position but struggled to create anything from there. The introduction of Maddison sent him to his more natural position on the right. 6.
Lucas Bergvall – Came on for Bentancur and went into the middle of the park, offering Tottenham some much-needed freshness in the centre. He came close to giving Spurs a late lead when he fired from the edge of the box, a shot that was destined for the bottom right corner, but Pickford made a really fine stop. 7.
Mathys Tel – The winger replaced Solanke and went to the left wing while Marmoush moved to the centre forward position. He did look to take his man on but again had no end product. He finished the game as Spurs’ number nine after De Zerbi shuffled his front line on several occasions. 6.
James Maddison – Came on in the final fifteen minutes for Marmoush and went straight into the number ten spot. N/A.
Tosin Adarabioyo – Was brought on for the final five minutes after replacing Archie Gray in what was his first Tottenham appearance. N/A.
