Tottenham player ratings vs Man United as 7/10 duo provide a slim silver lining

The full-time whistle has blown in the Premier League match between Tottenham and Man United, and it’s time for our player ratings.

Tottenham Hotspur suffered yet another defeat in the Premier League after Manchester United put two past Thomas Frank’s men following a Cristian Romero sending-off.

Let us take a look at how the individual players got on:

Guglielmo Vicario The Tottenham number one was forced into several saves in both halves as United continued to threaten the Tottenham goal. It very well could have been five if not for the Italian. 7.

Archie Gray – It was a simple yet solid display from Gray in this game. The midfielder turned full-back stuck to his defensive duties, marking Cunha for most of the game, with the United winger barely threatening the goal from out wide. But while Udogie had the licence to overlap, Gray was handed a more conservative role. 6.

Micky van de Ven The Dutchman had to change his centre-back partner early on in the game following Romero’s dismissal. Spurs spent most of the second half defending, and Van de Ven was at the heart of it, getting several blocks, interceptions and tackles in. 6.

Cristian Romero – The centre-back started the game brightly and was heavily involved both in defence and in attack. However, one moment of madness saw him get sent off, leaving Spurs to finish the rest of the game with 10 men. 2.

Destiny Udogie – The full-back was the one offering width on the left side for Spurs, with Simons tucking inside. He got to the byline on several occasions in the first half and put in some low-driven crosses, which caused slight problems for United. He could not see out the league fixture as he was forced off in the second half following an injury. 5.

Joao Palhinha – The midfielder was tasked with marshalling things in the middle of the park. He stuck to his assignment, helping to clean things up while also getting blocks and tackles in. He was especially helpful when Tottenham needed to defend following Romero’s sending-off. 6.

Pape Matar Sarr – The midfielder in the first half was looking to progress the ball forward, showing care with it instead of hoofing it long. In the second half, it was more of the same, with Sarr carrying the ball from deep into United’s attack when Spurs looked to push forward, often linking up well with Simons. 6.

Conor Gallagher – The midfielder was given the licence to go forward far more in this fixture. In the first half, he had a really good opportunity to put Tottenham in front after Simons found him with a dinked pass following a run from deep, but his effort was rather tame. In the second half, those runs were few and far between as Spurs spent most of the game defending. 5.

Xavi Simons – The Tottenham midfielder stuck to his number ten task in both halves, getting on the ball in central areas and driving his team forward. He created a good chance for Gallagher in the first forty, but the Englishman could not convert. He then had a good shot from range in the second half, but his effort was wide of the goal. 7.

Dominic Solanke – It just did not work out for the Tottenham number nine, who barely had a sniff at the United goal. He was eventually taken off for Muani with ten minutes to play. 5.

Wilson Odobert – The young wide forward did not have any impact on the game in attack for Tottenham. His game was then cut short in the first half as he was sacrificed for Dragusin following Romero’s red card. 4.

Substitutes

Radu Dragusin – Came in for Odobert after Romero’s sending-off and went straight to centre-back. During the course of the game, he made several interceptions and blocks, but there was nothing he could do to prevent either goal. 6.

Souza – The left-back made his Tottenham debut after Udogie was forced off following an injury. He did put on the burners when United looked to counter, helping prevent a one-on-one with Vicario. 6.

Yves Bissouma – The Malian came on for Joao Palhinha after the Portuguese midfielder was booked. N/A.

Mathys Tel – With ten minutes to go Frank looked to make a push in the game and Tel replaced Gallagher. N/A.

Kolo Muani – The French forward replaced Solanke in the closing stages. N/A.
