Tottenham player thinks the club will ‘fight for the title’ this season

Lucas Moura has insisted that Tottenham are better equipped for a title challenge this season than they have been in any of his previous years at the club.

Spurs have made a strong start to the campaign, having picked up a total of 17 points from their first seven matches of the season. They sit just one point behind league leaders Arsenal and level on points with Manchester City.

However, Antonio Conte has continued to play down expectations, with the Italian insisting that the Lilywhites are still a step below the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea, in terms of the quality they have at their disposal (Football.London).

However, Moura certainly does not see it this way, with the winger revealing that he thinks the team will challenge for the title this season.

The Brazilian insisted that expectations at N17 are high this campaign, given the squad the club have assembled and the manager they have in charge.

The winger told Foot Mercato: “To be completely honest, of all the seasons I’ve been here, I think this is the one where we have the best chance.

“This is the season when there are the most expectations. I think it’s down to the quality of the team, the coach and the group.

“The team kept getting stronger. Tottenham is a great power in football today. Of all the years I have been here, this is the season where we are closest to the title.

“But we know that it will be very difficult to win it because it is the most competitive Championship in the world. Many teams are strong this year, we are aware of the competition we face. But yes, I think we will fight for the title.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Being naturally pessimistic as a Spurs fan, I dread these kinds of statements ahead of a big game like the one we have on Saturday.

I will only really believe that we can challenge for the title if we are within touching distance of the top by February.

However, I have no doubt that Conte would have got the players believing that they can push the likes of Man City this season.
