Tottenham player to miss upcoming set of World Cup qualifiers through illness

Tottenham Hotspur defender Ben Davies has been forced to withdraw from the Welsh national squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers against the Czech Republic and Estonia.

The official Welsh Twitter account confirmed that Davies will miss both away fixtures due to illness.

Tottenham revealed ahead of Sunday’s Premier League match against Aston Villa that the left-back had an appendix issue, which also kept him out of the Europa Conference League victory over NS Mura.

Davies, who has 67 caps for Wales has found himself behind Sergio Reguilon in the pecking order on the left hand side of the Spurs defence this season under Nuno Espirito Santo, having only played just half an hour of Premier League football which came in last month’s 3-0 defeat at Crystal Palace (transfermarkt).

He is joined on the sidelines by Gareth Bale, with the former Spurs player having suffered a ‘significant hamstring tear’, according to manager Robert Page and is also a doubt for next month’s fixtures against Belarus and Belgium (Independent).

Spurs fans will be hoping that Sergio Reguilon can avoid injury while on international duty with Spain given the fact that he is the club’s only fit and available senior left-back.

Ryan Sessegnon is still currently unavailable through injury and with Davies also absent, he will be hoping that his issues on the left are not compounded any further.
