Tottenham player welcomes Ange Postecoglou’s promise to revamp squad

Richarlison confessed that the last few weeks have been quite difficult at Tottenham Hotspur but insisted that the team has progressed significantly from last season and has welcomed Ange Postecoglou’s plans to revamp the squad.

Tottenham have now fallen to four consecutive losses against Newcastle United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool, having conceded a total of 13 goals in those games.

That has understandably got the alarm bells ringing, with some sections of the fanbase starting to doubt if Postecoglou’s methods can be effective in the Premier League.

The Australian has been adamant that he will not change his philosophy, insisting that nothing he has seen over recent weeks has convinced him that Spurs cannot be successful while playing in this manner (Football.London).

Richarlison welcomes change at Tottenham

Richarlison confessed that the players have to continue working hard to get to where they want to be.

He told ESPN Brasil: “The last four games haven’t been easy for us. We’re coming off the back of four defeats, which is difficult, but there’s nothing we can do about it. Just work.”

“The next game is at home, of course we wanted to play in the Champions League, we still have a chance, but it’s a bit difficult. There’s nothing we can do, we have to work, go to the next game and see what happens between now and the end of the season.”

Postecoglou also confessed last week that some tough decisions will have to be made this summer with his Tottenham first-team squad and that some good players will have to be let go so that the club can sign players who are better suited to his system (Football.London).

Referring to that comment from the Spurs boss, Richarlison said: “Look, we presented a much more dynamic and, let’s say, more elegant and beautiful football than last season.

“But we have evolved, we have evolved a lot and I believe that, as of this week, it has already been announced that the coach will make changes, so I believe that next season he’ll be putting together a much more competitive team.”

I suspect Ange Postecoglou’s words were also intended as a warning to some Tottenham players to ensure they do not get comfortable and their motivation levels do not drop in the final few games, now that Champions League qualification looks beyond the Lilywhites.

Each player now knows that they are potentially playing for their futures at the club as not all of them will be part of Postecoglou’s project going forward.
