After news broke of Aston Villa’s reported progress in discussions for the signing of Conor Gallagher, it seems Spurs have upped the ante and are ready to make a move for the Chelsea player.

Spurs have been linked to Gallagher for the best part of a year now, but it looks like Chelsea’s resolve will truly be tested in the coming weeks as they look to fend off Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) and reprimands.
However, just this week, Aston Villa have reportedly stole the march on Spurs by entering into discussions with Chelsea regarding a possible transfer, and have spoken to the player’s representatives.
Conor Gallagher is entering the final twelve months of his contract
Chelsea are under pressure to sell players due to their spending, and Gallagher could be one of those sacrificed to balance the books.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the Blues will demand at least £50m for the midfielder, with Spurs, Villa, and a club outside of England all mentioned as suitors.
The latest report from the Daily Mail suggests Tottenham are stepping up their own efforts in light of Villa’s perceived advancements.
Spurs are now ‘are ready to make their move’ for Gallagher to bring him to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and intend to turn the screw on Chelsea ahead of the June 30 deadline for accounts to be filed in line with PSR.
The report states Spurs “sense an opportunity to secure a good value deal” for the England international as they look to “take advantage of Chelsea’s precarious position” financially and add him to Ange Postecoglou’s new-look Tottenham first-team squad.
There is a sense that all parties would prefer Gallagher’s future to be clear before he is expected to be part of England’s Euro 2024 squad to prevent any distractions while on international duty.

Spurs vs Villa for Conor Gallagher’s signature
It is thought Villa’s ability to offer Champions League football to Gallagher “could be a factor,” while Tottenham will face “difficulties” in persuading the player to move from a rival club.
There is a belief that Spurs may not even pursue Gallagher if negotiations were to stretch beyond June 30.
Spurs Web Opinion
If we can get a decent deal for Gallagher, I’m all for it. But I think we’d be right to walk away if the deadline passes and Chelsea start demanding more money. He’s a good player, but he’s not the be all and end all for us this summer.
