Tottenham receive a boost in hopes of signing Koni De Winter this summer

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly very keen on signing young Serie A centre-back Koni De Winter and Fabrizio Romano has just provided a big boost to Spurs’ hopes of landing the player.

Even though Tottenham are well stocked at centre-back, particularly after the arrival of Kevin Danso in January, the Lilywhites continue to be linked with various centre-halves ahead of the summer.

Earlier this month, it was reported that Spurs had asked for information about Genoa centre-back Koni De Winter, who has caught the eye since his move from Juventus last summer.

Just a couple of days ago, it was claimed that Tottenham had moved into pole position to sign De Winter even though plenty of other clubs were queuing up to sign the versatile defender.

Fabrizio Romano provides update on De Winter’s future

Tottenham Hotspur are not expected to have a free run at the Genoa man as the previously mentioned report also credited Bayern Munich and Inter Molan with an interest in the 22-year-old.

Fabrizio Romano has now taken to social media to reveal that De Winter is expected to leave Genoa at the end of the season.

While it remains unclear where the Belgian international will end up, the Italian journalist has confirmed that the player is attracting ‘strong interest’ from English and Italian clubs, and is not expected to be at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris next season.

Why Tottenham might have an advantage in the race for Koni De Winter

Tottenham already have a good relationship with Genoa, having loaned Djed Spence to the Italian club last season and signing Radu Dragusin from the Italian club a little over a year ago.

The Lilywhites may thus have a slight advantage over other suitors in the race for De Winter.

However, the decision might ultimately come down to the player himself and given where Tottenham are languishing in the Premier League table, they might not be a particularly appealing destination for the Belgian.
