Tottenham receive transfer blow after left-wing target picks up worrying injury

Tottenham Hotspur received some bad news on Thursday regarding one of their major January transfer targets.

Brennan Johnson has left Spurs to join Crystal Palace, which makes signing a top-class winger an even bigger priority for Thomas Frank’s men.

Several outlets have backed Spurs to reignite their interest in Savinho after failing to get a deal for the Man City man over the line in the summer.

While some sources have claimed that Man City could let Savinho leave if they land Semenyo, other publications have insisted that Pep Guardiola’s men do not plan on selling the 21-year-old mid-season.

Tottenham target Savinho suffers injury

However, Tottenham’s hopes of luring the winger from the Etihad Stadium may have been dashed after the winger picked up an injury during Man City’s 0-0 draw with Sunderland on Thursday.

Savinho started the game but was forced to come off due to an injury in the 54th minute at the Stadium of Light.

According to Manchester Evening News, Guardiola admitted to the media after the game that the winger’s injury “doesn’t look good”.

If it turns out to be a serious issue which puts Savinho out for a lengthy duration, that may force Tottenham to end their interest in the former Girona winger.

Savinho injury may have a cascading effect on two other Spurs targets

Savinho is not the only City attacker that the Lilywhites are thought to be eyeing in January.

It has been reported that Tottenham have explored a move for Omar Marmoush, while over recent days, we have also heard that Spurs are fans of Oscar Bobb.

If Savinho is ruled out for more than a few weeks or a month, then one suspects that City would be even more reluctant to let any of their attacking players leave mid-season.
