Tottenham receive triple injury boost ahead of European clash with Alkmaar

Three of Tottenham’s injured players are reportedly in line to be part of the club’s matchday squad for the first leg of the Europa League round of 16 tie against AZ Alkmaar on Thursday.

Spurs have already seen the likes of James Maddison, Guglielmo Vicario, Destiny Udogie and Brennan Johnson return to fitness over recent weeks.

The return of those four, along with the club’s January additions, have boosted Ange Postecoglou’s options, and performances have been much improved of late.

The Tottenham head coach learned earlier today that Spurs will be without Dejan Kulusevski for at least two matches after the Swede suffered a foot injury. However, that news has been softened by a huge boost ahead of the all-important clash on Thursday.

Tottenham could welcome back Dominic Solanke and co

One can argue that the two-legged tie against Alkmaar is among the biggest games of Postecoglou’s Spurs tenure so far, with the Europa League being the only trophy that the club can win this season.

The Tottenham head coach could be boosted by the return of three of his key men, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Dominic Solanke, for the trip to Alkmaar.

This update comes from Spurs insider Paul O Keefe, who reveals that all three are to be part of the matchday squad for the game in the Netherlands.

Will any of these three start for Spurs on Thursday?

Given how long the trio have been out of action, it is unlikely that Postecoglou will throw all three of them straight into the starting eleven for a game of this magnitude.

We could potentially see one of either Van de Ven or Romero start alongside Kevin Danso, but one would expect Solanke to be used as an impact substitute off the bench.

There is no doubt that the return of the trio significantly strengthens the Spurs side, even if it is off the bench for the next couple of weeks.
