Tottenham rumoured to be lining up replacement for Wanyama

Tottenham are interested in Watford’s French midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure, according to the Daily Mirror.

The 25-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Mauricio Pochettino’s side during the summer, but signed a new five-year deal in August to extend his stay at Vicarage Road until 2023.

The midfielder caught the eye for the Hornets last season where he finished as their top scorer with seven goals along with being named as their Player of the Season as well as Players’ Player of the Season.

According to the Watford Observer, Watford had placed a £45million transfer valuation on their star midfielder which had not attracted any offers from potential suitors.

Doucoure had claimed to Sky Sports that Liverpool, Tottenham and Arsenal had enquired about his services following the end of the previous campaign.

The Frenchman he arrived at Vicarage Road from Rennes nearly two years ago in a £5.4million move and was not an instant hit. He was sent on loan to Watford’s Spanish sister club Granada and looked like a different player upon his return to the Premier League.

The Mirror claim that the rumoured interest in Doucoure could signal doubts over Victor Wanyama’s future at Tottenham.
