Tottenham rumoured to have stepped up interest in Dembele replacement

Italian news outlet CalcioMercato have reported that Spurs are keen on bringing a new player into the club to replace the injured Mousa Dembele.

Dembele picked up a knock just 7 minutes into his 250th game in the recent 2-1 win at Wolves.

The midfield man was stretchered off, adding yet another injury to his long list in recent years.

The 31-year-old has under a year left on his current deal, and there doesn’t appear to be any progress of a new contract being agreed.

So, injury or not, Spurs may have to think about preparing for a life without the big Belgian.

CalcioMercato claim Tottenham want to bring in Cagliari centre midfielder Nicolo Barella to plug the hole that could be left by Dembele.

The Express have previously linked him with moves to Spurs, Everton and Liverpool, so Tottenham may face some competition for his signature.

Barella has played for every Italy youth side from Under 15 to Under 21. He has also played 87 matches for his current side, captaining them on three occasions.

The report suggests he could be available for £35m.
