17-year-old turning heads in the Championship

Tottenham have not been shy of shopping from the EFL over the last couple of years, securing the likes of Ashely Phillips and Archie Gray from the second tier.

It has now been revealed by TBR Football that another young Championship midfielder has caught their attention.

The player in question is Sunderland starlet Chris Rigg, who has established himself as a mainstay in the Black Cats midfielder this season despite being just 17 years of age.

Tottenham scouts watched Chris Rigg in action

The report says that Spurs sent representatives to Sunderland this weekend to watch Rigg in action against Sheffield United on Friday.

However, it is revealed that Tottenham were not the only ones to do so as their scouts were joined by ones from Arsenal, Crystal Palace, West Ham and Brentford.

It looks like the teenager could soon be the subject of a transfer battle, which is not been surprising as he has been tipped to reach the very top of the game.

In fact, Fotmob have quoted Tony Mowbray as saying Rigg possesses a “Roy Keane-esque type of nastiness” that makes him a nightmare to play against.

Tottenham could have an advantage in Chris Rigg race

Tottenham should have a good relationship with Sunderland, having loaned Jack Clarke to the club in 2022 before selling the youngster to the Black Cats soon after.

They could use that relationship to their advantage and steal a march on their rivals in the race for Rigg.

Additionally, the midfielder and his entourage will know that in Ange Postecoglou, Spurs have a manager who is happy to give opportunities to young players.
