Tottenham see Francesco Coppola transfer bid rejected as Pisa shut down talks

Tottenham Hotspur have been swiftly knocked back in their pursuit of a promising Serie B centre-back, with transfer talks ending almost as soon as they began.

With Tottenham Hotspur now guaranteed a spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League, following their Europa League triumph, attention is set to turn to squad building.

Ange Postecoglou has already laid bare his thoughts on what he wants from Tottenham ahead of next season, that is, of course, if he is still in charge.

According to the Spurs boss, he would want the club to add more experience to this squad, more depth and players who have played in the UEFA Champions League before.

Tottenham see Francesco Coppola’s bid rejected by Pisa

Reports from La Nazione now state that Tottenham have seen their effort to sign Pisa defender Francesco Coppola turned away by the Italian side, who are in Serie B.

It is reported that Coppola will not move to Spurs, with Pisa having now ‘closed the deal’ with the north London side.

According to the newspaper, Tottenham made a move for Coppola in the last few hours, with the Lilywhites planning for the summer and life in the Champions League next season, but negotiations between the two clubs did not last long, as Pisa reportedly refused Tottenham’s advances.

It is said that the Serie B side, who have now secured promotion to the Italian top flight, are banking heavily on Coppola, who has enjoyed a great season in the Italian third division with Vis Pesaro 1898.

Spurs told to walk away from Francesco Coppola transfer

Spurs are not the only ones to have shown interest in the 20-year-old defender, as it is stated that Lens made an approach for the defender back in January, offering €4m (£3.4m) at the time, but Pisa’s answer to that was no.

The same response has now been given to Tottenham, although the value of the north London club’s proposal has not been made clear.

It seems the Serie B side has no intention of selling their defender either way, with negotiations ending quickly and Spurs told to aim their attentions elsewhere.
