Tottenham send classy message to Brentford after knocking them out of League Cup

Tottenham Hotspur wished Brentford the best of luck for the rest of the season after overcoming the Bees 2-0 in a hard-fought semi-final on Tuesday.

Jose Mourinho named a near full-strength side for yesterday’s clash and the thinking behind this was evident as the Championship side gave a very good account of themselves.

Although they did not create too many clear cut chances, Brentford looked comfortable in possession and played through the Tottenham’s press with ease on plenty of occasions.

However, barring a brief period of dominance by the away side at the start of the second half, where they had a goal disallowed by VAR for offside, the win never really looked in doubt for Jose Mourinho’s men.

An early header by Moussa Sissoko and a blistering counter-attack finished off by Son Heung-min midway into the second half saw Tottenham cruise into the semifinal.

Although there was a bit of an altercation between the two sides in the dying moments of the game after Josh Dasilva’s dangerous tackle on Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg resulted in a red card, the issue seemed to have been resolved after the final whistle.

Tottenham sent Brentford the following message on social media after their 2-0 win:

Brentford also responded in kind and wished the Lilywhites good luck in the final.

Spurs Web Opinion

Brentford are an exciting side and it was evident from their performance yesterday why they are doing so well in the Championship this season. After the heartbreak they suffered in the playoff finals last season, I hope Thomas Frank’s side go one better and win promotion this year.
