Tottenham set 1977 record under Ange Postecoglou, but not one he will want

Tottenham’s Premier League record under Ange Postecoglou this season continues to get uglier with each passing game, with their latest defeat to Chelsea now taking the club to a new historic low.

Ahead of his trip to Stamford Bridge, Ange Postecoglou remarked that there was fresh excitement in the Spurs squad, insisting that the players are determined to achieve special in the final run-in.

It was certainly not the first time that the Australian has expressed such a sentiment, and it ended in predictable fashion, with his players once again failing to back up his words against Chelsea on Thursday.

If there was any hope that the ongoing project N17 was salvageable, that appeared to end yesterday, with Postecoglou’s relationship with the fans deteriorating after his controversial gesture.

Embarrassing stat paints sorry picture for Tottenham

Spurs’ 1-0 loss in West London was their 16th defeat of the Premier League season in 30 games, a more than 50 per cent loss record.

The result leaves the Lilywhites 10 points adrift of the top half of the table and were it not for the fact that the newly promoted sides have been extremely poor this season, Tottenham Hotspur would be in very real danger of being dragged into a relegation scrap.

The Athletic’s Duncan Alexander has now revealed that this is the first time that Tottenham have lost 16 of their first 30 league games since 1977.

Postecoglou is acting like a man who knows his time will be up soon

There has been a noticeable change in the Tottenham boss’ reactions over recent days, which indicates that he knows he will not be at the club next season.

A couple of days ago, Ange Postecoglou admitted that there are ‘outstanding candidates’ to take his Tottenham job, and added that other clubs would want him if Spurs got rid of him.

Postecoglou then cupped his ears to Tottenham fans at Stamford Bridge, which has not gone down well among the supporters.

These do not come across as the actions of someone who expects to build something at the club over the long term.
