Tottenham set new FA Cup record in fourth round win over Brighton

Tottenham have set a new FA Cup record following their 3-1 win over Brighton on Saturday night.

Spurs cruised passed the Seagulls courtesy of a Harry Kane double and an own goal to set up a clash against Middlesbrough in the fifth round.

Kane bent a beautiful opener from the edge of the area on 13 minutes before Emerson Royal’s cross flicked in and over Robert Sanchez to give Spurs a 2-0 lead after 24 minutes.

Brighton came out the stronger of both sides after half-time and pulled within one goal through Yves Bissouma’s deflected 63rd-minute effort to give the visitors some hope of a comeback.

But just three minutes later, Kane restored his side’s two-goal lead and grabbed his second of the game by sliding loose ball into an empty net.

In slotting three past Brighton, Spurs actually set a brand new FA Cup record by becoming the club to score the most goals in the competition’s history.

Spurs have now notched 906 goals in total and overtook Kettering Town’s record of 904 with the win over Graham Potter’s side.

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham’s love affair with the FA Cup in the past doesn’t make it too surprising that they have now edged ahead of goals scored in the competition. But it has gone far too long without the club winning it, but hopefully Antonio Conte can help address that and maybe even lead the side to glory this season.
